(Beijing, 20th – Comprehensive Report) With Father's Day approaching, Chinese President Xi Jinping recalls the profound influence of his father, Xi Zhongxun, especially his words: “No matter how high an official you become, never forget to diligently serve the people and sincerely consider the well-being of the masses.”
According to CCTV, in his early years Xi Jinping, like his father, also worked as a farmer, immersed himself at the grassroots level, rolled up his trousers, waded through water, and conducted field research in the rain; both always kept the people in their hearts, regarding “serving the people” as a lifelong belief and vow.
Xi Jinping admires his father for “making contributions to the Party and the people,” and is determined to “learn from his father’s pure-hearted devotion.” In a birthday greeting letter to his father, he wrote: “You are like an old ox, silently working for the Chinese people. This also inspires me to devote my entire life to serving the people, to repay the beautiful China and the fellow countrymen who raised me.”
“My father went from being a farmer to embarking on the revolutionary path; I myself also worked as a farmer for seven years.” Xi Jinping feels a special connection to “help the ordinary people, especially the farmers.” He sincerely regards the villagers as his own family.
Deeply understanding the hardships of farming, by the time he left the loess land at age 22, Xi Jinping had already established a solid life goal—“to do real work for the people.”
In 1982, when Xi Jinping began his political career in Zhengding, he left many people with the impression that he “was never idly sitting in the office.” He often rode a bicycle out to the countryside to conduct research, set up a desk on the street, and answered people’s questions on the spot.
In 2012, when Xi Jinping was elected General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, his first public speech solemnly pledged: “The people’s longing for a better life is our goal of struggle.”
