(Seria, 8th) — A serious fire broke out in Seria New Village on July 6, resulting in the tragic death of a 9-year-old girl who was consumed by the blaze, while a 72-year-old elderly woman suffered burn injuries and was sent to the hospital for treatment.
After receiving an emergency report on the night of July 6 regarding a house fire in Seria, the Fire and Rescue Department (JBP) immediately dispatched 10 firefighters from the Seria Fire Station, led by Deputy Station Chief Mohamad Zukifli, to the scene. They were supported by the Kuala Belait Fire Station and the Shell Firefighting Team.
Upon their arrival, firefighters discovered a wooden house already engulfed in flames, with the fire spreading to some nearby houses.
The fire department confirmed that the body of the deceased 9-year-old girl was found by rescue personnel on the first floor of the burned house on the morning of the 7th.
During the fire, a 72-year-old woman sustained burns to her hand and was immediately transported by ambulance to Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital for treatment.
Firefighters used a total of five hoses to battle the blaze and drew water from nearby hydrants, managing to control the fire within about one hour and preventing further spread.
Currently, the cause of the fire and the amount of property lost are still under further investigation by the fire and rescue department.
Acting Director Azmi, Acting Deputy Director Nor Hiyirwansur Kaki, and Acting Assistant Director Nur Afran from the Fire Department also visited the scene to assess the situation.
