Khartoum News: On Thursday, Sudan's paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) issued a statement saying that on Wednesday afternoon, the city of Kutum in North Darfur, western Sudan, was hit by a drone strike, resulting in the deaths of 56 civilians, including 17 children, and injuring another 107 civilians.

After conflict broke out in Sudan in April 2023, the city of Kutum has long been under RSF control. The statement accused the Sudanese Armed Forces of launching the attack. The Sudanese Armed Forces and government have not yet responded.

Eyewitnesses told Xinhua reporters that the drone struck from the northeast of Kutum, hitting a wedding venue in the Salama district. The strike damaged about five houses.

A local medical worker told Xinhua reporters that their hospital had admitted dozens of wounded from the attack and received more than 40 bodies. More injured are still being brought to the hospital.

On April 15, 2023, armed conflict broke out between the Sudanese military and the Rapid Support Forces in the capital Khartoum, with fighting later spreading to other regions. The ongoing conflict, now in its third year, has caused large numbers of civilian deaths. This year, drone attacks in Sudan have increased significantly, posing a serious threat to civilian safety and public facilities.
