Philippines Storm Causes 100 Deaths, Singapore's Aid Arrives

On the 27th, Philippine authorities reported that the strong tropical storm "Tami" has caused nearly 100 deaths nationwide, injured 71 people, and left 36 missing due to floods, landslides, and other disasters.

"Tami" made landfall in the northeastern part of Luzon Island, Philippines, on the early morning of the 24th and swept across Luzon from east to west. The highest number of deaths were reported in the Bicol and Batangas provinces south of Manila.

The report stated that "Tami" has affected more than 5.7 million people and over 560,000 have been evacuated. Numerous towns in the affected areas are without water and electricity. As of 8 a.m. local time on the 27th, 218 roads and 40 bridges remained impassable.

Additionally, Singapore deployed a C-130 transport aircraft to deliver the first batch of humanitarian aid supplies to the Philippines, arriving on the 27th.

Defense Minister Ng Eng Hen posted on Facebook that Singapore's first batch of humanitarian aid supplies arrived in the Bicol region of the Philippines amid heavy rain.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Defence, at the request of the Philippine government, Singapore dispatched a C-130 transport aircraft to assist in humanitarian efforts, airlifting aid supplies to areas affected by the tropical storm.

The Philippines is located in the western Pacific typhoon belt and experiences an average of 20 typhoons or tropical storms annually.
