Thai Prime Minister Phetongthan will make his first visit to Malaysia from the 15th to the 16th of this month to attend the 7th Leaders' Consultation Meeting, aiming to strengthen bilateral relations and promote regional cooperation.
Thai government deputy spokesperson Sasikarn said this visit reflects the two countries' commitment to achieving "shared peace and prosperity" for the benefit of their peoples.
In a statement released on Friday, she said: “Discussions will focus on advancing cooperation in infrastructure development, trade, and economic growth, and devising a vision to increase bilateral trade to USD 30 billion by 2027.”
She stated that on Monday, Phetongthan will receive an official reception at the Malaysian Prime Minister’s Office, followed by attending the Malaysia-Thailand Leaders’ Consultation Meeting.
She pointed out that Malaysian Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar and Phetongthan will witness the signing of agreements and memorandums of understanding to strengthen cooperation in various fields, followed by attending a luncheon hosted by the Malaysian Prime Minister, and then the two sides will issue a joint statement.
Accompanying Phetongthan on this visit is a high-level Thai delegation, including Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Suriya, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Anutin, Foreign Minister Mari, Minister of Tourism and Sports Sorawong, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives Naritmon, Minister of Culture Sudawan, and Secretary-General to the Prime Minister Promin.
Sasikarn said this visit highlights the longstanding partnership between Malaysia and Thailand and emphasizes their shared commitment to making tangible progress in multiple areas.
In 2023, Malaysia is Thailand’s second-largest trading partner in ASEAN and sixth-largest trading partner globally, with a total trade value of USD 24.83 billion (MYR 113.16 billion).
