On the 16th, Thailand's Pheu Thai Party announced three candidates for prime minister: Yuttacharnan, Suriya, and Chulawan.
According to candidate profiles released by the Pheu Thai Party, Yuttacharnan is currently a professor and vice president at Mahidol University in Thailand; Suriya is the head of election affairs for the Pheu Thai Party and has previously served as Thailand’s deputy prime minister and held various ministerial positions; Chulawan is currently the leader of the Pheu Thai Party and has previously served as deputy finance minister.
Local media reports that Yuttacharnan is the son of former Thai Prime Minister Somchai, who is the brother-in-law of former Prime Minister Thaksin, who is currently serving a sentence in prison.
On the 15th, Thailand’s Election Commission announced that elections for the new House of Representatives will be held on February 8, 2026. All political parties must submit their candidates for prime minister between December 28 and 31.
