(Perak, 11th) Perak State Police Chief Datuk Noor Hisham stated that the dashcam footage capturing the "bus accident that resulted in the death of 15 university students" has been handed over to Bukit Aman Police Headquarters for analysis and examination. The police have also completed recording statements from the owner of the involved vehicle.
He mentioned this during a press conference on drug cases at the Perak State Police Headquarters when inquired in a timely manner.
He disclosed that, so far, the police have recorded statements from 18 people, including students from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) who have been discharged, the driver of the Second National Car Alza SUV and his wife, the dashcam owner, and the forensic expert.
"Since the long bus driver is still receiving medical treatment, the police have yet to record his statement, and will do so after the driver is discharged. However, the police have advised the long bus driver not to discuss matters related to the accident publicly to avoid affecting the investigation."
He continued that, as of now, the driver's blood and urine samples have been sent to the Chemistry Department, the wreckage of the bus involved has been sent to the Computerized Vehicle Inspection Centre (PUSPAKOM) for examination, and the dashcam footage has been sent to Bukit Aman Police Headquarters for analysis and examination. The related reports are yet to be issued.
He stated that, based on available information, there are still 15 people receiving treatment in the hospital, including the long bus driver and co-driver.
He also mentioned that the investigation is still ongoing, and the public is urged not to speculate recklessly about the cause of the accident to avoid obstructing the investigation.
This severe fatal accident occurred at approximately 1 a.m. on the 8th of this month, at the 53rd kilometer mark on the East-West Highway in the direction of Gerik. At that time, a long bus carrying 42 students from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris collided with a Second National Car Alza SUV carrying a family of four, resulting in the death of 15 students and causing injuries to 33 people, who were sent to the hospital.
