Due to four consecutive days of heavy rainfall causing severe flooding, Songkhla Province in southern Thailand has announced that Ratthapum District, Ranot District, and Hat Yai District have been declared emergency disaster areas!
According to a report from the Songkhla Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, four consecutive days of heavy rainfall have led to widespread flooding in 16 districts, among which Ratthapum, Ranot, and Hat Yai have been declared emergency disaster areas. It is expected that more districts may soon be announced as disaster areas.
Additionally, Thailand’s Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation announced on Friday (21st) that, due to the strengthening northeast monsoon system, persistent heavy rainfall in the southern region has resulted in large-scale flooding.
"Currently, many provinces in Thailand are inundated by floodwaters. Strong winds and huge waves have exacerbated the flooding along the coasts of the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea."
Starting from Monday (17th), floods have struck Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Surat Thani, Satun, and Phatthalung provinces, with especially severe flooding in Chumphon, Surat Thani, and Phatthalung.

In addition, according to a Friday afternoon report by Hat Yai Radio Station, some streets in the city have water up to knee height, and vehicles are unable to pass. As of 3:45 p.m., water along canals on Khun Lang Street has risen to waist level, and the city government has issued an announcement urging residents to evacuate.

As the disaster situation continues to worsen, all schools in Songkhla Province have been closed and all classes have shifted to online instruction.
The Songkhla Provincial Education Department announced on Friday that, due to safety concerns and the difficulties students face getting to school, all educational institutions in the province—including elementary schools, secondary schools, and higher education institutions—have suspended in-person classes and will be teaching online. All schools are tentatively scheduled to reopen next Monday (the 24th).

On the other hand, due to flooding and waterlogging in many areas of Songkhla Province, the Songkhla Provincial Public Relations Office has released the latest list of emergency rescue hotlines covering all 16 districts, allowing residents to obtain quick assistance during the flood disaster.
Authorities urge that in case of emergencies such as being trapped, facing dangerous driving conditions, urgently needing medical attention, or requiring rescue, people can call their respective district’s hotline or use the nationwide unified emergency number for immediate assistance.
