Severe flooding has hit multiple areas of Hat Yai in southern Thailand, forcing hundreds of Malaysian tourists to be stranded and trapped locally, including in border regions such as Dannok and Sadao.
As the water level on some main roads leading into Hat Yai city center continues to rise, Thai authorities have restricted entry and passage due to safety concerns.
Fatin Shada: Roads Impassable, Cannot Leave Hat Yai to Return to Malaysia
Tourist Fatin Shada shared her situation on social media Threads, saying that she and her family were supposed to return to Malaysia on Saturday (22nd), but were told that the main roads out of Hat Yai are currently unsafe and impassable.
It is understood that Thai authorities are actively overseeing the situation and have instructed heavy vehicles and lorries to assist in evacuating people trapped in low-lying areas.
Adida: If Planning to Visit Hat Yai, Best to Postpone
Another tourist, Adida Syawani, said that the area around her hotel is also flooded.
“It has been raining in Hat Yai since the day before yesterday until Friday, and today (Saturday) even the area near our hotel is flooded. Please pray for the safety of my whole family.”
“Anyone planning to visit Hat Yai, it's best to postpone your trip. Our family is trapped in the hotel and can't go anywhere!”
Farhana: Never Flooded Before, Didn’t Expect Sudden Rise in Water Level
Tourist Farhana said that the hotel where he is staying has never experienced flooding before, but was affected this time.
“There has never been flooding here, and the local residents said the same, but unexpectedly the water level rose sharply. Please pray for the safety of my family and me.”
