The Ministry of Energy and Water Resources Transition has announced the theme for the 2025 ASEAN Energy Sector Conference as "Empowering ASEAN: Connecting Boundaries, Building Prosperity."
The ministry's statement emphasized that this theme highlights advancing the energy agenda through strengthening relations among ASEAN countries to achieve regional common prosperity and progress.
“This will promote economic growth by focusing on inclusive and sustainable agendas, thereby improving the lives of our people.”
The theme was announced at a special senior officials meeting on ASEAN energy held on the 23rd of this month, following a series of related meetings the day before.
The Ministry of Energy pointed out that the meeting adopted eight proposed annual priorities for the ASEAN energy sector in 2025.
“Firstly, under the ASEAN Power Grid (APG) agenda, signing a memorandum of understanding to strengthen the ASEAN Power Grid, discussing the terms of reference for the submarine power cable development framework, and announcing the financing mechanism for the ASEAN Power Grid.”
Additionally, the meeting also resolved to sign the follow-up agreement on the ASEAN Petroleum Security Agreement (APSA), launch the ASEAN Energy Efficiency Database and Investment Platform (Building), complete the Renewable Energy Long-term Roadmap (RE LTR), and initiate the ASEAN Renewable Energy Certificate Development Framework.
The Ministry of Energy hosted the ASEAN special senior energy officials meeting from January 22 to 24 at Pulau Langkawi, Kedah.
Delegations from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam attended the first day of the meeting, with East Timor participating as an observer.
The Ministry of Energy will also host two important energy sector meetings, namely the Senior Energy Officials Meeting in Kuching, Sarawak from June 16 to 20, 2025, and the 43rd ASEAN Energy Ministers Meeting in Kuala Lumpur from September 22 to 26.
