According to Jimu News, multiple tourists had previously posted on social media claiming that at the Ulan Hada Volcano Scenic Area in Inner Mongolia, a 68-year-old cleaner was beaten after advising tourists not to litter smoke sticks, resulting in multiple bruises over his body.

A person suspected to be the involved cleaner also posted online, claiming to have been born in 1957 and to have been assaulted by several tourists while working. "I told the tourists to throw the smoke sticks in the trash can, but the tourists threw several smoke sticks at me. I was knocked to the ground and then scratched and bitten all over by multiple tourists. I am now covered in injuries."
