(Bandar Seri Begawan, 4th)—To promote the diverse culinary culture of Taiwan and foster grassroots exchanges between Taiwan and Brunei, the “2025 Taiwan Cuisine International Tour Lecture – Brunei Session” was grandly held on the evening of August 3, 2025 at the Rizqun Hotel in the capital, Bandar Seri Begawan. The event was co-hosted by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Brunei, the Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce in Brunei, and the Brunei Alumni Association of Taiwan.
This event attracted over 200 passionate attendees, including members of the Brunei diplomatic community, political and business leaders, and overseas Taiwanese, all of whom responded enthusiastically. One after another, classic Taiwanese dishes were served hot and fresh, fully displaying the profound culinary heritage and innovative flavors of Taiwan. Guests praised, “Taiwanese food is amazing!”
This lecture specially invited Chef Lee Chia-Chi from the five-star Sheraton Hotel in Taoyuan, Taiwan, along with Assistant Chef Liao Tai-Chun, who worked together with the Rizqun Hotel’s head chef and team. They presented a luxurious banquet showcasing Taiwanese style, featuring authentic delicacies such as “Chiayi Chicken Rice,” “Pumpkin Rice Vermicelli,” “Three Cup Chicken,” “Treasure Island Osmanthus Shrimp,” “Night Market Stir-fried Squid,” and “Taiwanese Salt & Pepper Chicken” made with bean curd. These dishes stimulated guests’ appetites and were widely praised.
Hsiao Sheng-chung, Representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Brunei, gave remarks at the event, saying that cuisine is the most direct expression of culture. This lecture not only showcased Taiwan’s rich and diverse food culture, but also further promoted people-to-people exchanges between the two sides.
During the dinner, Representative Hsiao also announced the formation of a “Friends of Taiwan” club, hoping to gather more friends who love and support Taiwan, and together promote more cultural exchanges and friendly cooperation.
This delicious journey from Formosa didn’t just take place in the restaurant. On August 1, 2025, the chef team also visited Laksamana College of Business to host the “Taiwan Day” campus demonstration and teaching session, bringing the most authentic Taiwanese cuisine hands-on class to hospitality students.
Taiwanese chefs personally taught Taiwanese culinary techniques, demonstrating and guiding students in classic dishes such as “Formosa-style Braised Beef Short Ribs,” “Three Cup Chicken,” and “Treasure Island Osmanthus Shrimp.” The students reported rewarding experiences, leaving a deep impression of Taiwanese food culture.
The “2025 Taiwan Cuisine International Tour Lecture – Brunei Session” featured a series of wonderful events, blending gastronomy and cultural exchange. Not only did it allow Bruneians to “taste Taiwan,” but it also injected new vitality into Taiwan-Brunei relations. The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Brunei stated that there will be more diverse and exciting cultural promotion activities in the future, so that more people can get to know and fall in love with Taiwan.
