(Bandar Seri Begawan, 17th) On the morning of June 17, Wang Yu, Director of the International Exchange and Cooperation Office of Jinan University, led a four-member delegation to visit Chung Hwa Middle School, Brunei.
This is the second visit by Jinan University to the school within half a year, following Professor Zhang Zhenjiang's team visit to CHMS earlier this year. Both sides engaged in in-depth discussions on deepening cooperation in Chinese language education and expanding channels for overseas Chinese students to pursue higher education.
At around 10 a.m., the delegation arrived at the campus and was warmly received by CHMS Principal Xu Yuelan and three assistant principals, Chen Meidian, Shen Manling, and Zheng Xiuying. The Jinan University delegation was high-powered, including not only team leader Wang Yu but also Hou Xingquan, Dean of the College of Chinese Language and Culture; Zhu Zimu, Director of the Undergraduate Admissions Office; and Li Ying, Associate Professor at the International School.
After a group photo at the school gate, the guests and hosts moved to the VIP room for a symposium. The meeting began with the screening of the CHMS school history promotional video and a documentary on the school's exchanges with Chinese institutions, giving the delegation a direct view of the school's solid educational foundation and fruitful cross-border exchange achievements.
At the outset of the symposium, Principal Xu Yuelan delivered a welcome speech. She remarked that, as the "No. 1 university for overseas Chinese", Jinan University has always been a destination longed for by outstanding CHMS students. Many alumni have returned after studying at Jinan and have become key teaching staff at their alma mater. She emphasized that this visit marks a key stage from "initial acquaintance" to "deep implementation" in the cooperation between the two schools. She looks forward to continued collaboration in the internationalization of Chinese language education and the seamless admission of overseas Chinese students, so as to build a bridge for more Bruneian students to enter top Chinese universities.
Next, Director Wang Yu gave a special presentation based on the current trends in international Chinese language education and China-Brunei cultural exchanges. She explained in detail Jinan University's strategic layout in areas such as cross-border credit recognition, student and faculty exchange programs, and joint training of Chinese language teachers, pointing out a clear direction for the next phase of practical cooperation between both sides.
Zhu Zimu, Director of the Undergraduate Admissions Office, introduced Jinan University's latest admission policies, program features, and scholarship and support systems for overseas Chinese students. He reviewed the recent exchanges between the two schools and clearly stated that the university will continue to provide quality higher education support for eligible CHMS students, and highly commended the school's active contributions to the inheritance of Chinese education and the promotion of China-Brunei cultural exchanges over the years.
During the discussion, delegation members also engaged in in-depth dialogue with school representatives on specific issues such as admission details and academic program choices. This visit has further strengthened the foundation for cooperation between the two schools and injected new vitality into China-Brunei people-to-people educational exchanges.
After more than an hour of exchanges, both parties exchanged souvenirs and took group photos to commemorate the occasion.
