Chongming Dongping National Forest Park in Shanghai will host a “Sleep Challenge,” with 50 participants each day. The participant with the highest sleep score can win a prize of 3,000 yuan (about 1,704 ringgit). According to the registration system, slots for the first round on March 21 have already been filled.
The challenge, called the “2026 Chongming Forest Sleep Challenge,” will be held every Saturday from March 21 to April 26, as well as on May 2 and May 3, with one session per day and 50 participants each day. Registration fee is 299 yuan. The only KPI for participants is to sleep until waking up naturally. The participant with the highest sleep score will receive a 3,000 yuan prize, while the fastest person to fall asleep will get 2,000 yuan (about 1,136 ringgit). All participants who strictly follow the rules and persist until the end will share a grand prize of 10,000 yuan.
Participants are required to wear a professional sleep monitoring device provided by the organizer. Prize evaluations will be based on objective data recorded by this device. The challenge runs from 12:00 noon to 7:00 pm on the day, totaling 7 hours, and participants must remain lying on a standard bed throughout. Contestants are allowed to turn over, but no part of their body may leave more than one third of the mattress. Sitting up, standing, or leaving the bed to use the restroom will be considered as forfeiting the challenge. Notably, the event does not require actual sleep—quiet activities like resting with eyes closed or lying still and daydreaming also count. It is strictly forbidden to take any sleep aids.
On March 17, a staff member at Shanghai Dongping National Forest Park stated that each session will offer the three aforementioned prizes. The venue will provide individual tents and beds, and each participant will compete inside their own tent. Visitors can observe during the competition but must remain outside the area.
According to the registration system, aside from March 21, all other dates are open for normal registration. Customer service said this shows that the first session on the 21st is temporarily full.
