(Bandar Seri Begawan, 7th) Brunei Chung Hwa Middle School Kindergarten recently held a fun and educational Hari Raya celebration, aiming to let young children deeply understand the cultural significance of this important festival for Bruneian Muslim compatriots through hands-on activities, and from an early age cultivate awareness, respect, and appreciation for multiculturalism.
On April 4th, the event began with the children’s cheerful greetings. The teachers guided the children to learn the name of Hari Raya and showcased the beautiful clothes everyone wore, vividly presenting the traditional dressing culture of the festival.
The kindergarten teachers introduced the customs of the fasting month before Hari Raya and the celebration itself through interactive Q&As. The event also incorporated teachings on etiquettes and food culture, such as the handshake greeting and festive salutations. The children also learned about the green festive envelopes and were taught to express gratitude when receiving them.
The highlight of the event was the joyful “sing and dance time.” Under the guidance of their teachers, the children danced to lively festive music and cheerfully offered sincere wishes of “Selamat Hari Raya!”, filling the kindergarten with laughter and happiness.
Principal Xu Yuelan of Chung Hwa Middle School stated that the school has always been committed to nurturing the children's understanding and respect for Brunei's multiculturalism at the early education stage. Celebrating Hari Raya is one of the kindergarten’s important annual cultural education activities, aiming to let children personally experience and appreciate the cultural traditions of fellow ethnic groups in a joyful environment, which is crucial in shaping them into future citizens with inclusiveness, a sense of social responsibility, and a strong national identity.
On that day, the children’s innocent smiles, focused expressions, and the heartwarming scenes of mutual well-wishing were the most beautiful pictures of the event. It was not only a joyful festive experience, but also planted the seeds of cultural understanding, social harmony, and mutual respect in young minds—vividly reflecting Brunei's social values of multicultural harmony, mutual learning, and shared prosperity.
