Lee Kim Shin Addresses Gas Cylinder Shortage, Takes Action to Resolve Supply Crisis

(Miri, 14th) Recently, the Miri public has been reporting issues with the shortage of gas cylinders. In response, Sarawak Transport Minister, Senadin state assemblyman, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin personally reached out to PETROS Group CEO Dato Janin Girie to convey the situation and request assistance. This includes the urgent dispatch of supplies from the Kuching liquefied petroleum gas factory to Miri to address the supply crisis caused by the closure of the Bintulu liquefied petroleum gas plant due to a landslide.

Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin expressed his gratitude for Dato Janin Girie’s swift response. According to Dato Janin, the daily demand for gas cylinders in Miri is allocated to two distributors, with Pusaka Bumi receiving 1,600 units and Maju Gas Supply receiving 800 units.

He pointed out that on February 13th, Pusaka Bumi confirmed receipt of 1,834 gas cylinders, while Maju Gas Supply received 1,204 units. Today, Miri also received the same number of supplies to alleviate the market demand.

Recently, the shortage of gas cylinders in Miri has caught widespread attention. Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin personally visited the Maju Gas distributor in his constituency to gain an in-depth understanding of the problem and assess the actual situation.

He stated that after the floods, the sudden increase in market demand added more chaos to the supply situation.

“To address the current emergency, PetrosNiaga will maintain a supply of at least 3,000 gas cylinders daily, starting today, until the situation stabilizes.”

Consumers purchasing gas cylinders at Maju Gas are required to adhere to the following temporary arrangements to simplify the replacement process:

 1. Collect number plates at Maju Gas Miri at 4 pm daily (except Sundays).

 2. A daily supply of 150 gas cylinders (any changes will be updated on the Maju Gas Miri Facebook page).

 3. If abnormal price increases are observed, report immediately to PETROS and the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs.

Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin emphasized the need to regulate the distribution processes at the distributor level to ensure that each household receives one cylinder, which should generally meet a month’s usage requirement.

He also suggested that the public familiarize themselves with the addresses of gas cylinder distributors in different areas of Miri. For instance, residents of Taman Tunku can go to the Pusaka Bumi distributor point in Taman Tunku to purchase gas cylinders.

“This is a critical period, and I urge everyone to work together to ensure the smooth distribution process of gas cylinders so that everyone in need can access the gas supply.”
