(Kuching, 26th) The Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) officially launched a new logo commemorating its 70th anniversary during a thanksgiving celebration held last night, marking a new chapter in its history.
The symbolic launch of the new logo was officiated by the Head of Sarawak, His Excellency Tun Pehin Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Abang Muhammad Salahuddin Abang Barieng, during an event held at the Sarawak Islamic Complex Auditorium.
Sarawak's Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, also attended the 70th-anniversary thanksgiving celebration, adding brilliance to the occasion.
The unveiling of the new logo became the climax of the celebration, during which His Excellency Abang Muhammad Salahuddin Abang Barieng also presented the championship award for the '70th Anniversary Logo Design Competition.' The competition was won by Sarawak Islamic Religious Department's Islamic Affairs Officer, Mohd Farizuan Firdaus Mohd Nayyan, who received a prize of 3,000 Ringgit and a certificate.
The celebration began at 6:45 PM with a solemn and simple atmosphere. Guests collectively performed the Maghrib prayer, followed by the recitation of Surah Yasin and Tahlil prayers, led by the Grand Imam of Sarawak, Datuk Mustafa Kamal Ahmad Fauzi.
Subsequently, several famous Quranic reciters from the 'Land of the Hornbills' recited Quranic verses, including Datuk Ismail Doyet, the runner-up in the 1982 International Quran Recitation Competition, Awangku Omar Asfuddin Awang Hamdan, the 2009 National Recitation Champion, and the 2023 and 2025 Sarawak Recitation Champions, Hadi Mohd Shawkawi and Mohd Faizal Affendy.
The celebration also invited Sarawak's Grand Mufti, Tun Jipli Yassin, to deliver a sermon on the theme 'Unity Prosperous Ummah.' The event concluded with an evening prayer and ended with a dinner.
