(Miri, 6th) Miri Member of Parliament, Chiew Choon Man, issued a statement expressing concern over several school construction projects in the Miri area being delayed, emphasizing the need for prompt resolution and strict monitoring.
He recently met with the Malaysian Minister of Education, submitted a formal letter, and discussed the delay in several schools within the Miri constituency.
Currently, the main projects under attention include SK Syed Othman, SMK Tudan, and the construction of the Miri Vocational College building.
Chiew Choon Man pointed out that these delays have caused deep concern among parents and the local community, particularly as there are serious issues of overcrowded classrooms in nearby schools, directly increasing the teaching pressure on teachers.
According to a written response obtained by Chiew Choon Man in Parliament, the construction progress of these schools is significantly lagging. He has reported the situation in detail to the Minister of Education.
He emphasized that these projects are crucial for meeting the growing population demands in the northern and central parts of Miri; however, the delays have already had a significant impact on the daily operations of the schools.
"As the Member of Parliament for Miri, I deeply understand the importance of education for our children. The delayed projects should not continue any further, as this will affect the educational development of our young generation," said Chiew Choon Man.
He expressed special thanks to the Minister of Education for paying attention to this issue, revealing that the re-tendering process for SK Syed Othman and SMK Tudan is underway, while the refurbishment work for Miri Vocational College is also in progress.
Chiew Choon Man also called on the Ministry of Education to continue closely monitoring the progress of these projects to ensure no further delays and to ensure that these projects can be completed as soon as possible to benefit students in the Miri area.
He also urged all sectors of society to support this work to ensure that students in the Miri area can receive education in a more comfortable, safe, and high-quality environment.
