(Bandar Seri Begawan, 27th) In response to a widely circulated video of a brawl on social media, the police issued a statement today confirming that the Berakas Police Station has received a related report and has launched an investigation in accordance with the law.
Footage from the video shows the incident occurred at the 31st Consumer Expo held at the International Convention Centre in Berakas, involving two elderly men and a young man, with a physical altercation breaking out among the three.
The Royal Brunei Police Force stated that the case is currently being handled under Section 160 of the Penal Code. This provision stipulates that participating in a brawl in a public place is a criminal offence, and upon conviction, carries a maximum penalty of three years' imprisonment and a fine.
The police also took this opportunity to remind the public not to act recklessly out of impulse or take potentially illegal actions. At the same time, they urge the public to refrain from spreading unverified information, so as not to affect the progress of the investigation or endanger the safety of those involved.
The police will continue to closely monitor developments in this case and take appropriate action in accordance with the law to safeguard public order and social peace.
