(Kuching, 4th) Two Chinese nationals were rescued this morning after falling into the Sarawak River near an apartment on Padungan Road in Kuching.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department’s Pulau Arang Fire Station received a report at 3:04 a.m. and immediately dispatched personnel to the scene for rescue operations.
Upon arrival, firefighters found three people clinging tightly to the riverbank, awaiting rescue.
Preliminary investigation revealed that an adult Chinese woman had accidentally fallen into the river. An adult Chinese man subsequently jumped in to try to save her. An employee of the apartment also jumped in immediately to assist, in case the two were swept away by the swift current.
Firefighters then used life buoys and rescue ropes to carry out the rescue, successfully bringing the two individuals to safety.
The rescued man and woman were then accompanied by security personnel back to their apartment and handed over to the police for further handling.
Both individuals refused medical examination and declined to be sent to the hospital.
The authorities brought the situation under control at 3:45 a.m. and ended the operation at 4:18 a.m. No one was injured in the incident.
