722 Convoy Traverses Sarawak - Dr. Ling Tung King: Awakening Sarawakians to Fight for Rights

(Miri, 1st) Initiated by civil movement figures from across Sarawak, the 2025 Independence Day Convoy Traversal Sarawak event is about to start. Convoy leader Dr. Ling Tung King stated in a press conference today that the purpose of the event is to commemorate the 722 Independence Day, awaken the people of Sarawak to their history, fight for their rightful rights, and rectify governmental policy errors.

The convoy is expected to deploy 10 mobile homes, not only providing participants a place to rest along the way, but also promoting Sarawak tourism, allowing more people to understand the history and current situation of this land.

Dr. Ling Tung King pointed out that 722 is a day of great significance in the history of Sarawak. It is imperative for the people of Sarawak to persistently, from generation to generation, fight for their past and future rights until goals are achieved.

He emphasized that after 62 years of governance, Sarawak has degraded from a region rich in resources to one of the most underdeveloped areas in the nation. The root cause lies in policy errors and sacrifices of interest, leading to backward rural development, roads still being dirt paths, lacking streetlights, remote areas without water and electricity supply, inadequate medical resources, dilapidated schools, outdated communication networks, and people suffering poverty, with many still living below the poverty line.

“We only have one chance in a lifetime. We cannot let Sarawak continue to lag behind and must actively strive for a better future.”

Sarawak possesses over a century’s worth of oil and natural gas resources, bringing in trillions in foreign exchange for the nation, but Dr. Ling Tung King questioned, “Why is Sarawak still one of the most underdeveloped regions? Where has all the money gone?”

He urged the people of Sarawak to unite, accelerate the modernization of Sarawak before the exhaustion or price plunge of oil resources, and build a better future for future generations.

Dr. Ling Tung King stressed that the people of Sarawak must be the backbone of wise, courageous, and selfless leaders, ensuring that the government truly serves the people.

“If the leaders are incapable, they must actively pass the torch, and under no circumstances should incompetence be tolerated!”

He encouraged the broad masses of Sarawakians to stand up, contribute to Sarawak, the nation, and even the world, collectively celebrate the important holiday of 722, and demonstrate a spirit of unity, selflessness, and relentless struggle.
