(Miri, 1st) The "2025 Sarawak Independence Day Complete Sarawak Parade," initiated by civil activists from all over Sarawak, will kick off on July 18th from Lawas, the northernmost point of Sarawak. The convoy will traverse key towns throughout Sarawak and will reach its final destination, Telok Melano in Kuching (also known as the zero starting point, 0KM), on July 21st.
This convoy parade will span across Sarawak, with stops in major towns including Lawas, Limbang, Miri, Bintulu, Sibu, Sarikei, Bintangor, Kapit, Betong, Engkilili, Simanggang, Serian, Samarahan, Stapok, and Kuching. The event aims to engage and interact with local residents along the way.
Event convener Yeo Yaw Lee stated at this afternoon's press conference that the movement mainly focuses on three key points:
1. Celebration and Commemoration: The event aims to celebrate and commemorate Sarawak's liberation from British colonial rule and the restoration of its nation status since its founding in 1841, symbolizing Sarawakians’ affirmation of their identity.
2. Awakening Historical and Civic Awareness: This event seeks to encourage Sarawakians to pay more attention to local history, enhance civic awareness, safeguard their rights through the law, and monitor government actions.
3. Focus on Resources and Development: Despite Sarawak's abundant oil and natural gas resources, development is restricted due to legal and administrative factors. This initiative hopes to raise public awareness on resource management, urging the government to fully restore control over resources according to the law and promote regional economic development.
Yeo Yaw Lee calls on the people of Sarawak to face the current situation seriously, abandon the mentality of letting things take their course, and actively fight for their rightful rights. He encourages people to support this event by donating or participating directly, advocating together for Sarawak's rights and development.
This convoy parade is not just a cross-town venture but also a mass movement that unites the strength of Sarawakians. The organization calls for enthusiastic participation from all sectors to jointly promote the future development of Sarawak.
