Celebrating the Sultan’s 80th Birthday Anniversary: The Highest Celebration Committee Holds Its First Meeting

(Bandar Seri Begawan, 13th) The first meeting of the National Highest Celebration Committee to celebrate the 80th birthday anniversary of His Majesty the Sultan in 2026 was held yesterday at the Prime Minister's Office.
The meeting was jointly chaired by the Co-Chairmen: Minister of Home Affairs, Dato Awang Amin; Minister of Religious Affairs, Pehin Badaruddin; Minister in the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Defence, Pehin Halbi; Minister of Health, Dato Isham; Minister of Education, Datin Romaizah; and Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Dato Nazmi.

Dato Awang Amin, Minister of Home Affairs, pointed out that appointing co-chairmen and establishing the National Highest Celebration Committee is the first step in preparation and coordination work. The aim is to ensure that all activities celebrating His Majesty's 80th birthday in 2026 can be held in a more orderly, smooth, and perfect manner, with a particular emphasis on ensuring the safety, health, cleanliness, harmony, and comfort of the beloved monarch as well as the various participating parties and residents.

"Indeed, His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei's birthday celebration is a very special national event that is always eagerly anticipated by the people and residents of Brunei.
The Minister of Home Affairs explained: "The participation and enthusiastic support of the people in jointly celebrating this event reflects love, loyalty, and gratitude towards His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei, while also strengthening the unity, harmony, and spirit of togetherness in the community."
The Minister of Home Affairs announced the dates for the various activities marking His Majesty's 80th birthday celebration in 2026, including: the Grand National Flag Raising Ceremony; thanksgiving prayer ceremony; collective morning assembly; Quran reading; parade; as well as a thanksgiving ceremony for presenting souvenirs to children born on July 15th, 2006. The Sultan will celebrate with the people across the four districts; the 80th Quran Recitation Ceremony will be held for members of all towns and village committees nationwide, primary and secondary school students, and university students; as well as a large-scale 80th Anniversary Flag Lowering Ceremony across the country.

The meeting also discussed the preparations for the activities of the 2026 celebration of His Majesty's 80th birthday, including city decorations: installation of giant banners, banners, and arches; main poster; flag-raising poster; and the 80th Quran Recitation Ceremony to be held for members of all towns and village committees, primary and secondary school students, and university students nationwide.
