(Dudong, 24th) On the morning of June 20th, Saturday, Jiuting Chinese School successfully held a themed celebration event, "The Fragrance of Rice Dumplings Fills the Air, Welcoming the Dragon Boat Festival with Fun".
The entire school, including teachers and students, participated in level-based interactive experiences to immerse themselves in the charms of Dragon Boat Festival folk customs and to pass down Chinese traditional culture through hands-on activities. During the morning, each class carried out creative practical activities simultaneously. Kindergarteners completed DIY coloring of zongzi (rice dumpling) cards. The individual cards could be pieced together to form a complete zongzi shape, paired with a cartoon animation introducing knowledge about the Dragon Boat Festival. Children danced and sang along to the melody, getting their first experience of the festival through games and play; students in grades 1 to 3 wove colorful string bracelets and participated in a Dragon Boat Festival-themed "spot the difference" contest, with one winner selected from each class to experience the fun of folk traditions through games; students in grades 4 to 6 used calligraphy brushes to write Dragon Boat Festival poems on round fans, adding creative designs to the back of the fans, beautifully blending calligraphy with classical aesthetics and experiencing the gracefulness of traditional culture.
At 10 a.m., all teachers and students gathered in the "Wen Hui Hall." Second graders kicked off the event with a hand gesture dance performance "Celebrating the Dragon Boat Festival", vividly reenacting scenes such as dragon boat racing, drumming, and hanging mugwort. This was followed by a fun classroom session introducing folk customs and types of zongzi, where students enthusiastically participated in a prize-winning Q&A segment.
During the zongzi wrapping demonstration, students practiced hands-on repeatedly until they succeeded, experiencing the joy of making zongzi.
At the end of the event, the school principal, Ms. Tao Meihua, presented awards to outstanding students from each grade, and after a group photo; teachers and students enjoyed two flavors of zongzi together: red bean paste and glutinous rice with sugar.
With the aroma of zongzi wafting through the air and bursts of laughter all around, the event ended successfully in a strong festive atmosphere.
