(Borneo Bulletin Bandar Seri Begawan News) To comprehensively enhance students' awareness of artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, Chung Cheng Middle School recently invited representatives from the Brunei Cybersecurity Organization, Siti and Nomi, to the school, where they held a special seminar on "Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity: Staying Safe Online" for junior high school students.
At the beginning of the seminar, Siti, a representative of the Brunei Cybersecurity Organization, systematically introduced the basic concepts of artificial intelligence to the students. She pointed out that currently, AI technology is widely applied in daily life scenarios such as speech recognition, image generation, and video processing, bringing significant convenience to social development. While affirming the positive value of artificial intelligence, Siti also reminded students to be aware of its potential risks. She particularly emphasized that with the rapid development of AI technology, its risks of misuse in cybersecurity and cyberbullying have become increasingly prominent, which calls for the attention and vigilance of young netizens.
When delving into the topic of cyberbullying, Siti explained in detail how to identify, respond to, and prevent such behavior. She noted that students should learn to accurately recognize various forms of cyberbullying, including malicious comments, the spread of false information, public humiliation, and identity theft. Whether they themselves are affected or they notice others being victimized, they should remain alert and take effective action promptly. Regarding coping strategies, she suggested students remain calm, avoid responding directly, properly save chat records and screenshots as evidence, and promptly seek help from teachers, parents, or other trusted adults. In addition, she stressed that improving digital literacy, strengthening privacy settings, being cautious in sharing personal information, and understanding the potential risks of AI tools are all important measures to prevent online harm.
Siti further explained that if students encounter malicious AI-generated content, cyberbullying, privacy leaks, identity theft, or the spread of false information, they can report to the Brunei Cybersecurity Organization, which will provide professional investigative support, technical assistance, and psychological counseling services.
During the seminar, students listened attentively the whole time and participated enthusiastically in the interactive session, showing great interest in the topics of AI and cybersecurity. The teachers present also actively engaged in discussions, having in-depth exchanges with experts regarding online troubles encountered in daily teaching.
In the concluding section, Siti once again stressed that artificial intelligence, as a powerful technological tool, can cause serious consequences if misused. She hopes that students will learn to protect themselves in the online world, always uphold the principle of respecting others, and work together to maintain a clean and positive cyberspace.
This seminar effectively strengthened students’ awareness of cybersecurity and helped them develop the right mindset regarding the use of artificial intelligence. According to the school, digital literacy education will continue to be promoted to create an even healthier and safer learning environment on campus.
