(Miri, 12th) Miri Member of Parliament, Chiew Choon Man, along with the Parliamentary Community Service Center team, volunteers, and the local community, recently collaborated to conduct a cleanup activity at Pujut Tanjong Batu to assist flood victims in need, helping clean and organize their homes.
Chiew Choon Man mentioned that they also helped a family in a particularly difficult situation, as the husband had just undergone foot surgery, and during the flood, their child got injured by stepping on broken glass while rescuing items and had to have the heel stitched. Their 90-year-old mother needed intensive care. Seeing the challenges faced by this family, it is evident that comprehensive support from the surrounding community is essential to alleviate their burden. At the same event, we also shared information with them on how to apply for a RM1000 charitable aid fund.
“The most touching aspect is the care and spirit of cooperation displayed by the volunteers. Some were willing to brave the rain to clean up mud and move furniture, making the house comfortable and livable once more. Such small efforts carry significant meaning, not only for those being helped but also for building neighborly bonds and brotherhood. It is wonderful when we work together; no one feels isolated or alone.”
Chiew Choon Man urges more Miri residents to step forward to provide aid to flood victims, especially those hardest hit, such as patients, the elderly living alone, and people with disabilities. We may not be able to solve all their issues, but our sincere presence can offer a glimmer of hope. Thanks to everyone involved; we cannot stop here. Please continue this noble effort so that our Miri can smile once again after the flood.
