(Miri, 24th) In conjunction with the upcoming Christmas celebrations, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture and Miri Member of Parliament Chiew Choon Man extended his heartfelt Christmas greetings to Christians nationwide and to all Malaysians celebrating the festive season with their family and friends.
Chiew pointed out that Malaysia’s strength comes from its diversity. As a country of multiple cultures and religions, people of all races have long lived together harmoniously in a spirit of mutual respect, understanding, and acceptance. Festive celebrations like Christmas are not only moments of rejoicing, but also important platforms to foster interfaith understanding and strengthen social cohesion.
He emphasized that religious freedom and openness are crucial pillars of our social structure. People of all races can freely practice their respective faiths while respecting the beliefs of others, demonstrating the nation’s maturity and the success of co-existence and mutual prosperity over the years. This spirit of tolerance and moderation must continue to be safeguarded and strengthened.
He said that unity does not mean uniformity. Differences in culture, language, and faith are not weaknesses but strengths that enrich our national identity. Only by embracing diversity with sincerity and respect can social harmony be realized.
Chiew also noted that arts, culture, and tourism play important roles in promoting unity. All kinds of cultural festivals, traditional celebrations, and community events allow Malaysians and visitors to personally experience the beauty of diversity. Through cultural exchange and joint participation, understanding is deepened and prejudice is eliminated.
He stated that the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture will continue to promote inclusive cultural initiatives, and through celebrations such as Christmas, Chinese New Year, Hari Raya, Kaamatan, Gawai, and Deepavali, further strengthen national unity and social harmony.
Additionally, he called on the people to grasp the true meaning of Christmas by extending a helping hand to the vulnerable, the elderly, and those on the margins of society—passing on care and kindness through concrete action, and together building a more compassionate and empathetic society.
At the year’s end, Chiew hopes that the spirit of Christmas will inspire everyone, regardless of race or religion, to move forward hand in hand with optimism, unity, and common purpose as we welcome the new year.
He wishes Christians across the country a blessed Christmas, and all Malaysians a festive season filled with peace, joy, and harmony.
