(Miri, 9th) To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Miri's elevation to city status, Miri City Council will grandly host the "Food, Craft, and Culture Carnival" at the Miri Fan-Shaped Park from May 16 to 25. This year's carnival, themed "Unity of Multiple Races," showcases Miri's unique multicultural and harmonious spirit.
Mayor Yu Shao Shan announced at a press conference held in the City Council building's conference hall today that this ten-night carnival is not only a celebration of the city's development but also symbolizes community unity and progress.
"Over the past 20 years, Miri has transformed into a vibrant and inclusive city. We are proud of our achievements, and this carnival is an important moment for us to celebrate together with the citizens."
The carnival events are rich and colorful, covering local and international cuisines, creative handicrafts exhibits and sales, cultural displays, nighttime competitions, and parent-child interactive programs suitable for all ages. The musical performances will shine brightly, inviting well-known Malaysian singers such as Wany Hasrita, Baby Shima, Vanessa Reynauld, Justin Ng, Donny Lang, and Kate Chan to perform in turn, igniting the atmosphere on-site.
The opening ceremony of the carnival will be held grandly on the evening of May 17, with Sarawak's Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Karim, attending as the main guest. The concert on the opening night is expected to be held from 9 PM to 11 PM, featuring a lucky draw to encourage public participation.
The organizers expect to distribute 2,000 entrance tickets and urge people to arrive early to avoid traffic congestion. The concert will be held in the indoor sports arena, with the main entrance located near the electronic library pool.
Mayor Yu especially thanked all the organizing units, partners, sponsors, and volunteers for their hard work. It is everyone's effort that makes this carnival, belonging to the people of Miri, possible.
He also warmly invited all citizens and tourists to participate actively with their families. This is a free-admission event, where we can create beautiful memories together and showcase the best side of Miri.
