Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar stated that Malaysia will hold the largest ever ASEAN summit in October, truly gathering a meeting of the world’s main centers of power and influence.
He said that Chinese President Xi Jinping, U.S. President Trump, current BRICS chair Brazilian President Lula, and the G20 chair and South African President Ramaphosa are all expected to attend.
“Ensuring their attendance is just the first step. The bigger challenge is to make them feel that their visit to Malaysia and ASEAN is worthwhile when they leave. The eyes of the world will be focused on us.”
He said that at the ASEAN summit in October, key issues will include regional trade, cross-border investment, energy grids, and connectivity.
He said this today (8th) in Cyberjaya while delivering a speech at the 2025 ASEAN Celebration. In just over four months, Malaysia will pass the chairmanship to the Philippines, and Malaysia’s performance in the coming months will determine how history judges us.
He continued, saying that anniversaries are a time for reflection and review, and while looking back on our journey, we must also look to the future.

He said the founders of ASEAN knew very well that the main task of this region is to ensure that countries can coexist harmoniously, cooperate, progress together, and be responsible.
He said that peace between countries and domestic peace are the cornerstone of our regional community, therefore we must not take it for granted and cannot shirk the responsibility of seeking solutions to regional issues.
Attendees included Foreign Minister Dato’ Seri Mohamad Hasan, Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Dato’ Seri Tiong King Sing, and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Zuki Ali, among others.
