Member of the CPC Central Political Bureau and Foreign Minister Wang Yi had a phone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Aragchi on the 15th.
Aragchi briefed Wang on the latest developments in Iran-US negotiations and the next steps, stating that Iran is willing to continue seeking rational and realistic solutions through peaceful negotiations. He highly appreciated China’s continued efforts to promote de-escalation and looks forward to China continuing to play its role in promoting peace and ending conflict.
Wang Yi stated that China, as always, supports Iran in safeguarding its sovereignty, security, and national dignity, and pointed out that President Xi Jinping’s four-point proposal on maintaining and promoting peace and stability in the Middle East provides a Chinese solution to resolving the current crisis. He noted that the current situation is at a critical juncture between war and peace, the window for peace is opening, and China supports maintaining the momentum of ceasefire and negotiations. This, he said, is in the fundamental interests of the Iranian people and meets the common expectations of the region and the international community.
Wang Yi further emphasized that, as a littoral state of the Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s sovereignty, security, and legitimate rights and interests should be respected and upheld. At the same time, the freedom and safety of international navigation through the Strait should also be ensured, and restoring normal navigation in the Strait is a universal demand of the international community. China, in the spirit of President Xi’s four-point proposal, is willing to continue promoting de-escalation, facilitating improvement in regional relations, and play a constructive role in achieving long-term peace and stability in the Middle East.
