(Bandar Seri Begawan, 28th) The Women and Children Abuse Investigation Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Royal Brunei Police Force continues to actively participate in forums concerning the protection and welfare of women and children, in order to enhance public awareness.
Superintendent Noor Azliani, head of the Women and Children Abuse Investigation Unit, was recently invited to be one of the keynote speakers at the International Women's Day forum hosted by Brunei Fertilizer Industries.
The theme of the forum was “Narratives We Must Break: Addressing Domestic Violence Against Women in Brunei”, which covered topics such as combating domestic violence against women, strengthening support systems for victims, as well as reporting and investigation procedures for related cases.
The police also emphasized a victim-centered approach, the importance of multi-agency cooperation, and the roles played by family members, neighbors, employers, and the wider community in identifying early signs of abuse, while encouraging victims to proactively seek help.
On July 25, Superintendent Noor Azliani was once again invited as a keynote speaker at the forum “Bullying from a Legal Perspective: Social Responsibility and Legal Implications” held at Masin Secondary School.
The topics discussed at the forum included the characteristics of bullying and cyberbullying, the possible legal consequences faced by perpetrators, systematic complaint handling procedures, and the importance of strengthening cooperation among schools, parents, law enforcement agencies, and society.
The forum stressed that bullying is not merely a matter of school discipline and, in certain cases, may constitute a criminal offense.
Noor Azliani called on all parties to play their role in creating a safe environment, and encouraged victims and witnesses of bullying to report incidents bravely, without fear.
