Hong Kong star Raymond Lam is venturing into the Malaysian food and beverage industry, and unintentionally revealed his identity—he is actually a descendant of the famed Yang Family Generals’ Yang Sixth Son, a celebrated hero in Chinese history!

Raymond Lam expressed that choosing roast delicacies as the starting point for his Malaysian F&B venture is deeply connected to his acting career.
Raymond, who recently became a “Malaysian son-in-law”, has had a string of joyful events lately. After holding a grand wedding banquet with Tracy Chu on the 2nd of this month in Kuala Lumpur, on the 14th, his Cantonese roasted food shop Fengliu Dao officially opened in Petaling Jaya SS2. While sharing with Malaysian media about the shop’s name, Raymond revealed that he has always felt a special affinity for the number “six”, so he incorporated “six” into the shop name, because he is a descendant of Yang Sixth Son.

Raymond’s venture into the Malaysian F&B industry is strongly supported by his wife Tracy Chu.
“Since childhood, when worshipping ancestors, we always prayed to Yang Sixth Son. The elders in my family often told me stories about our ancestor, and I’ve watched many TV dramas and films about the Yang Family Generals, so I have some understanding of their deeds. This time, opening a shop in Kuala Lumpur, I also hope to bring our Yang clan’s story here.”

When asked about the investment amount, Raymond laughed and said: “A lot of money, indeed, a lot for me!” He expressed that by now, he already considers himself “half Malaysian”, and hopes to bring the beloved taste of Hong Kong to Malaysia and share it with food lovers there.

Raymond enjoys great relations in the entertainment circle; many Hong Kong celebrity friends, including Charmaine Sheh, Kenneth Ma, Tavia Yeung, Royston Pang, Edwin Siu, Joel Chan, and Sisley Choi, sent congratulatory flower boards.
Raymond said that choosing roast delicacies as the starting point for his F&B venture in Malaysia is inseparable from his acting career. Since joining TVB at age 20, in the 27 years since, whenever he was filming on location, the crew’s lunch boxes were often roast meat rice. For Raymond, roast meat rice is not just a hearty work meal but a special kind of “happy meal”: “From 20 to 45 years old, it’s roast meat rice that raised me. Every time I see roast meat rice, I feel happy, because it means I have work.”

After marriage, Raymond will continue to travel between Hong Kong and Malaysia for work. He joked that now, whenever he craves Hong Kong-style roast meat, he can go to his own shop to satisfy the craving. As for future development, he further joked that his goal is to have a Fengliu Dao branch on every street in Malaysia, displaying his ambition in the F&B industry.

Additionally, a host of Hong Kong celebrity friends couldn’t attend in person but sent flower boards, including Charmaine Sheh, Kenneth Ma, Ruco Chan, Benjamin Yuen, Sisley Choi, Tavia Yeung, Royston Pang, Lai Lok Yi, Joel Chan, and TVB executive Virginia Lok. The flower boards were displayed prominently, giving a very grand impression.
