(Bandar Seri Begawan, 15th) The Brunei Safety, Health and Environment National Authority (SHENA) recently took enforcement action against two construction sites for failing to comply with the requirements regarding first aiders under Section 5 of the Workplace Safety and Health (First Aid) Regulations.
One of the sites, located in Kampong Penabai, Tutong District, was inspected on April 15 and issued a $500 fine by SHENA. The enforcement was due to non-compliance with regulations regarding first aiders at the workplace. The site manager has since paid the fine in full.
SHENA stated that after the inspection, the site manager took the necessary corrective actions to address the non-compliance issues found during the inspection.
On the other hand, a construction site located at Batu Apoi* (Kampong Negalang Ering), Temburong District, was also inspected on May 4 and issued a $500 fine. This enforcement action similarly involved failure to comply with Section 5 of the Workplace Safety and Health (First Aid) Regulations. The fine was also paid in full.
After the inspection, the site manager likewise undertook the necessary remedial measures to rectify the identified non-compliance issues.
SHENA reminds all parties to consistently comply with Chapter 277 of the Workplace Safety and Health Order and its subsidiary regulations. Any manager who fails to comply with the Workplace Safety and Health (First Aid) Regulations is committing an offense, and upon conviction, may be fined up to $5,000.
SHENA reiterates its commitment to upholding safety, health, and environmental compliance standards, and will continue to conduct inspections and take appropriate enforcement actions to safeguard the safety of workers, the public, and the environment.
