The Japan Meteorological Agency announced that at around 7:30 a.m. local time on the 25th, a magnitude 6.9 earthquake occurred off the coast near Iwate Prefecture, Japan. The epicenter was located at 40.2 degrees north latitude and 142.3 degrees east longitude, with a focal depth of approximately 50 kilometers.
The Japan Meteorological Agency stated that strong tremors were felt in many parts of the Tohoku region. However, there is currently no need to worry about a tsunami disaster.
No Abnormalities Detected at Nearby Nuclear Power Plants
Meanwhile, Kyodo News quoted sources from power companies as saying that no abnormalities have been found at Fukushima Daiichi and Daini nuclear power plants, Higashidori Nuclear Power Plant in Aomori Prefecture, or the Onagawa Nuclear Power Plant in Miyagi Prefecture.
