(China, 26th) China’s Ministry of Public Security announced on the 25th that 494 buildings in Myanmar’s KK zone involved in gambling and fraud crimes have been demolished, and the Asia Pacific New City gambling and fraud zone has also been completely cleared. Recently, 952 and cumulatively over 7,600 Chinese nationals suspected of telecom fraud have been escorted back to China this year.
According to the official WeChat account of China’s Ministry of Public Security, since October, the Myanmar side, based on a series of agreements previously reached by China, Myanmar, and Thailand, has organized a new round of crackdown operations in places like Myawaddy, focusing on apprehending criminal suspects and forcefully demolishing gambling and fraud zones.
On December 15, a working group composed of police from China, Myanmar, and Thailand went together for the first time to large-scale gambling and fraud zones and related venues, such as the KK and Asia Pacific New City areas in Myawaddy, to jointly supervise the effectiveness of the crackdown and clearing work, and to discuss follow-up focused clearing, joint control, and rapid repatriation efforts.
From the 16th to the 19th, the Ministry of Public Security organized police from Jilin and Henan Provinces to escort suspects apprehended during the clearing operations back to China, with 952 Chinese nationals suspected of telecom fraud being brought back to the country.
China’s Ministry of Public Security stated that, with the joint efforts of China, Myanmar, and Thailand, over 7,600 Chinese nationals engaged in illegal online gambling and telecom fraud in Myanmar’s Myawaddy region have been escorted back to China so far this year. 494 buildings in the KK zone involved in gambling and fraud crimes have been demolished, and the Asia Pacific New City gambling and fraud zone has been completely cleared.
