(Thailand, 26th) On the 24th, Thailand's Prime Minister Anutin was nominated as the sole prime ministerial candidate by his party, Bhumjaithai Party. However, the party later announced that it would also nominate Foreign Minister Sihasak as the second candidate. The two will compete in next year's February general election.
On the evening of the 24th, Bhumjaithai Party issued a statement on Facebook announcing its decision to nominate two suitable candidates for the prime minister post, Anutin and Sihasak, both of whom have accepted the nominations. The statement explained that Anutin was nominated because he is the incumbent prime minister with extensive governing experience and broad public support.
As for nominating Sihasak as a prime ministerial candidate, the reason is his past experience as foreign minister, his ability to bring Thailand successfully back to the international stage and uphold its dignity, and his recognized cooperation with political and security forces by both the public and foreign nations.
The statement also mentioned that Commerce Minister Supachai and Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Anudit both agreed to continue working with Bhumjaithai Party, and that if the party leads the next government, they will assume important positions.
That morning, at the Bhumjaithai Party's policy launch event, Anutin said that if the public chose his party, he would appoint Supachai as Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister, Anudit as Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, and Sihasak as Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister.
On the 15th, Thailand’s Election Commission announced that the next House of Representatives election will be held on February 8, 2026. All parties must submit their prime ministerial candidate list (up to three names per party) between December 28 and 31.
