After the incident, the suspect Zhang Wen’s classmate from the culinary program accepted a media interview and said that although Zhang Wen was rather reclusive and had average grades in high school, he would always step up to help classmates at the first opportunity. It was a huge surprise to hear that his personality had changed so much after graduation and that he committed a murder.
It is understood that 27-year-old Zhang Wen was wanted by the Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office for violating military service obligations. His household registration was in his family’s old home in Yangmei District, Taoyuan City, but he moved to Zhongzheng District, Taipei City in January of this year. Because he did not officially update his household registration, he did not receive mobilization orders, nor did he report as required, and was thus put on the wanted list.
After the incident, Zhang Wen’s high school classmate accepted an interview with "ETtoday News Cloud," revealing that Zhang Wen had attended the culinary cooperative education program at Yongping High School in Yangmei. He studied at school during his first and second years, and by third year, everyone in the class went to work at a restaurant under the Mitsui Group for their cooperative education.
The classmate said that Zhang Wen was quite reclusive in school and had average grades; he was only close to one classmate and rarely hung out with others after class. However, he was enthusiastic and helpful—whenever a classmate needed help, he would be the first to step up. The classmate expressed that he was very surprised by how much Zhang Wen had changed in recent years and that he even became a 'cold-blooded murderer.'
