(Taiping, 26th) – Democratic Action Party's Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng has strongly criticized the investigation results of the Human Rights Commission regarding the January 17, 2025 Taiping Prison incident, calling them shocking and shameful.
He said the investigation revealed that police reports filed regarding the detainees actually contained false information. The investigation also showed that a large number of prison staff subjected detainees to excessive physical violence, and even abused weapons against them.
“This is not maintaining order, but blatant acts of violence happening within the high walls of the prison!”
In a statement issued Tuesday, Lim Lip Eng said that the highest management of Taiping Prison must not shirk all responsibility. The violence, false police reports, and weapon abuse happened under their supervision. Now, with attempts to cover up the truth emerging, the management must be held accountable.
He called on the authorities to severely punish the highest management and related staff involved in the Taiping Prison incident, including immediate suspension for investigation, taking stern disciplinary action, and, in cases involving criminal offenses, to prosecute those involved in court without hesitation.
Lim Lip Eng emphasized that Malaysia must never allow its prisons to turn into lawless places where detainees are tortured, framed, and silenced.
