Yeo Bee Yin: Simplifying Event Application Procedures to Make Kuala Lumpur the Top Choice for Entertainment

(Kuala Lumpur, 26th) With the government’s commitment to reducing bureaucracy and speeding up the approval process for international events, Kuala Lumpur is poised to emerge as a key hub for the regional entertainment industry.

Federal Territories Minister Yeo Bee Yin said she has instructed Kuala Lumpur City Hall to simplify and expedite the relevant application procedures to ensure the capital remains the top choice for international industry events.

Speaking at the launch of "KL Headline Season 2026" held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre on Monday night, Yeo said: "Time is money, and speed is currency. This is precisely how I wish to drive City Hall forward — by being more efficient and proactive in processing applications."

She said: "We cannot just sit and wait for things to happen; we must proactively help push things forward and move the paperwork along."

Yeo pointed out that the economic benefits brought by live entertainment events are considerable. Citing the recent water music festival in Kuala Lumpur as an example, she said the event alone contributed up to RM320 million to Malaysia’s economy in just one weekend.

She added that about 100,000 international visitors attended the water music festival and spent approximately RM255 million during that weekend, while around 150,000 local visitors spent about RM64 million.

She said that to further lower the threshold for organizers, the government has reduced the deposit required for holding local shows, concerts, as well as stage and cultural performances.

She stated that she will work with Kuala Lumpur City Hall to oversee the implementation, and will also request the Kuala Lumpur Mayor to review the existing standard operating procedures and related processes.
