(Bandar Seri Begawan, 28th) The Brunei delegation attended the 2025 Child Sexual Exploitation Regional Dialogue (CSERD 2025) held at the Westin Hotel in Nusa Dua, Bali, Indonesia, from the 27th to the 29th of this month.
The Brunei delegation is composed of officers from the Women and Child Abuse Crime Investigation Unit and the Human Trafficking Crime Investigation Unit under the Criminal Investigation Department of the Royal Brunei Police Force.
This dialogue is hosted by the Australian Federal Police and co-organized by the Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation and the Jakarta Centre for Law Enforcement Cooperation.
CSERD was first created in 2018, with the inaugural meeting held from February 25th to 26th, 2019, in Manila, Philippines. The second meeting, originally scheduled for February 2020, was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic to May 24th to 26th, 2023, in Siem Reap, Cambodia; the third was held from October 24th to 26th, 2023, in Phuket, Thailand. This Bali meeting is the fourth session.
CSERD 2025 aims to strengthen regional cooperation in combating the issue of child sexual exploitation. The theme of this dialogue is: From Cooperation to Action: Uniting to Combat Child Sexual Exploitation, focusing on gaining a deeper understanding of current situations and challenges of child sexual exploitation in the Southeast Asia region and promoting practical actions.
This meeting attracted a total of 65 participants from eleven countries, including law enforcement agencies from Australia, France, and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, as well as representatives from various non-governmental organizations.
The Brunei delegation also delivered a briefing at the conference, sharing the experiences and challenges of handling children as victim witnesses in domestic child exploitation and human trafficking cases, adding concrete practical references to the conference.
