(Kuching, 11th) Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari revealed that the natural gas distribution issue between Sarawak Petroleum Company and Petronas can be regarded as resolved, currently awaiting Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar's official announcement soon.
In a special program recorded yesterday for Sarawak TV (TVS) about the 2025 financial budget, Abang Johari said that the Prime Minister is expected to announce the solution to this issue.
He explained that this issue is no longer a major problem, as both parties have reached an agreement on legislation.
"Petronas based on the 1974 Petroleum Development Act (PDA), while Sarawak cited the 1958 Oil Mining Ordinance (OMO). It has now been decided that the Petroleum Development Act and the Oil Mining Ordinance can coexist."
He also denied that Petronas will suffer huge losses due to the gas distribution.
"Some people say Petronas will lose 100 billion ringgit. Yes, maybe the profit will reduce a bit, but this matter can be resolved well."
He further emphasized that Sarawak Oil Company will continue to cooperate with Petronas to ensure the shared benefits of the gas industry.
"This means the results of Sarawak's gas exploration will be shared, and the previous issues only involved legal aspects."
