Japan's Ministry of Defense reported on the 17th that the 'Typhon' intermediate-range missile system, which had been deployed at the US military base in Iwakuni City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, has been completely withdrawn. This was significantly delayed compared to the original plan.

From September 11 to 25, the Japan Self-Defense Forces and the US military conducted the large-scale joint exercise 'Keen Dragon' in Kyushu and other locations in Japan. During this period, the US military deployed the 'Typhon' intermediate-range missile system in Japan for the first time.

The Ministry of Defense had previously stated that the system would be withdrawn about a week after the exercise ended.

On the 10th, civic groups from Hiroshima Prefecture and Yamaguchi Prefecture submitted a letter of request, urging the Japanese government to demand the US military withdraw the 'Typhon' intermediate-range missile system deployed in Iwakuni City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, out of concern that this temporary deployment in the name of joint exercises would become the norm.
