Trump Criticizes Taiwan for Grabbing Chip Business Again: It's Shameful

On the 17th, U.S. President Trump, in an interview at the White House, once again discussed Taiwan’s key position in the global chip industry. He bluntly stated that America’s decision years ago to move chip manufacturing overseas was “stupid,” especially handing over dominance to Taiwan, resulting in almost all chips being made in Taiwan now. He described this situation as “very shameful.”

According to official footage released by the White House, when asked about the H-1B visa issue, Trump cited the chip industry as an example, pointing out that the U.S. has not produced its own chips for many years. Now, to regain control of the market, it is necessary to retrain American workers.

He recalled that the U.S. once had 100% of the chip business, but gradually lost its advantage due to past policies. He even bluntly stated: “We lost chips to Taiwan; that was so stupid. Now, they make almost 100% of the chips. It's so shameful.”

However, Trump emphasized that the good news is the chip industry is returning to the U.S., and he predicts that America will capture most of the chip market within the next year.

He reiterated that it was not the CHIPS Act that truly prompted chip manufacturers to return, but rather the tariff policies led by him.

Trump stated that the U.S. once controlled 100% of the chip business, but now it has all gone to Taiwan and South Korea—“mostly to Taiwan.” He claimed that chip manufacturers are investing back in the U.S. because they do not want to bear high tariffs: “They've all promised to come back.” In the next few years, the U.S. will reclaim a large portion of the chip market.
