China’s Taiwan Affairs Office on Mass Recall: 'Taiwan Independence' Separatism Is Doomed to Fail

(China, 24th) In response to the DPP's (Democratic Progressive Party) second round of mass recall votes in Taiwan ending in another defeat, the Mainland’s Taiwan Affairs Office stated that this fully demonstrates that any 'Taiwan independence' separatism and political manipulation are unpopular and bound to fail.
Xinhua News Agency reported that Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, answered reporter questions regarding the results of the second round of recall votes for Taiwan's lawmakers on the 24th. A reporter asked for comments on the voting results.
Zhu Fenglian said that following the first round of voting on July 26, the people of Taiwan have once again said 'no' to the DPP's suppression of dissent and divisive political drama. This fully shows that any 'Taiwan independence' separatism and political manipulation are unpopular and destined to fail.
The recall vote on August 23 targeted seven KMT (Kuomintang) legislators; none of the cases passed. Overall, 33.9% voted in favor of the recall and 66.1% against, an even wider margin compared to the first wave of recall votes against 24 KMT lawmakers in July. The overall turnout across the seven constituencies was 49.3%, lower than last time's 56.1%, which can be interpreted as a decline in voting enthusiasm among DPP supporters.
