Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on all Malaysians to give their full support to the national squad competing in the Women's Under-19 T20 World Cup 2025.
"Our warriors will do battle with the West Indies at the Bayuemas Cricket Oval in Klang at 10.30 am tomorrow. This match will decide whether or not our team will advance to the next round.
"Come on, Malaysia. Let's give our full support to our Under-19 women's cricket team. The prayers of all Malaysians are with you!” he posted on Facebook today.
Malaysian Cricket Association president Mohammed Iqbal Ali Kassim Ali thanked Anwar for his encouragement ahead of their must-win match against the West Indies tomorrow.
Mohammed Iqbal said the Prime Minister has shown true leadership by making time to encourage the country's young cricketers.
"As the Prime Minister projects Malaysia as a dynamic country on the world stage, so too our athletes... as young ambassadors bringing brand Malaysia to the world through sports.
“They can step onto the field with confidence, knowing that the whole country is rooting for them,” he said in a statement.
India currently top the group based on net run rate, despite sharing four points with Sri Lanka, while the West Indies and Malaysia follow in third and fourth places respectively.
Only the top three teams from each group will advance to the Super Six round, with the 12 teams divided into two groups to compete for the semi-final berths.
The bottom-placed teams in the group stage will compete in the 13th-16th place playoff.
