(Kuching, 28th) The Sarawak government has no intention of hiding information about the natural gas distribution dispute from the people but is instead candidly reclaiming Sarawak's rights.
Chief Political Secretary to the Sarawak Premier, Dato Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman stated that the government's approach is to allow Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar to announce the solution as a sign of respect.
“However, to this day, we have not heard the Prime Minister make such an announcement. Currently, the decision-making power lies with the Prime Minister. If anyone is playing with the people of Sarawak, it is definitely not the Sarawak government. Sarawak's position is very clear; the power of natural gas distribution is a right of the Sarawak government, and Petros is seen as the sole natural gas aggregator.”
Fazzrudin was responding to a statement by Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen, who recently urged Sarawak Premier Abang Johari to be transparent and open with the people of Sarawak regarding the details of the natural gas distribution agreement between Petronas and Petros.
Fazzrudin, who is also the Tupong assemblyman, also urged Chong Chieng Jen to take a stand on this issue and work with the Sarawak government to promote the announcement of a solution by Putrajaya.
He added that this is also the first time Chong Chieng Jen, the elected representative of Batu Kawa, has spoken about the natural gas distribution issue, as he has remained silent before, even though GPS and the Sarawak government are actively voicing and persistently fighting for the rights of Sarawak.
“Perhaps Chong Chieng Jen and the Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) can use their connections at the federal level to request DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke and the Prime Minister to resolve this issue. In fact, Chong Chieng Jen can directly raise the issue with the Prime Minister himself. This move would reflect the sincerity of the DAP in respecting and protecting the rights of Sarawak, as they have often claimed before.”
