(Kuching, 28th) As part of the 1963 Malaysia Agreement, Sarawak has made significant progress in achieving healthcare autonomy by establishing the Sarawak Medical Committee.

Datuk Amar Dr. Sim Kui Hian, Deputy Premier of Sarawak, stated that the Sarawak Medical Committee will collaborate with the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) and plans to host the next meeting in Sarawak.

"We have informed them that Sarawak will eventually establish its own medical council."

He mentioned this while speaking at the 50th Anniversary Golden Jubilee Dinner of the Sarawak Private Practitioners Association last night.

He also revealed that a comprehensive plan for the Sarawak Private Health Institute has been developed in collaboration with the University of Sarawak.

He urged stakeholders to contribute their ideas and opinions to strengthen this initiative, noting that pursuing healthcare autonomy is an important step in the right direction, although it will take time to fully achieve it.

"This is what we call healthcare autonomy; it's an important step, but it won't happen overnight and requires a gradual roadmap."
