(Kuala Lumpur, 16th) — Suspected of acting as “marshals” to intercept vehicles at a traffic roundabout and allow a luxury car convoy to pass first, two drivers have been arrested by the police.
Iskandar Puteri District Police Deputy Chief Saifulra issued a statement saying that at about 6:16 p.m. on Friday evening, police found a viral video on the social media platform Threads. The video shows two drivers intercepting vehicles at the Iskandar City Avenue roundabout without authorization, allegedly attempting to clear the way for a group of luxury cars.
He said that according to police investigations, the convoy was heading from Puteri Harbour towards downtown Johor Bahru at the time. Upon arrival at the incident site, the two luxury car drivers acted as “marshals,” forcibly requiring other vehicles to stop to allow the convoy to pass through.
He added that the Iskandar Puteri District Police’s Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Unit successfully arrested the two local drivers, aged 65 and 54, on Saturday and seized the vehicles involved.
“Currently, the police are investigating the case under Section 110 of the 1987 Road Transport Act (Obstructing and Disturbing Traffic). If convicted, the offenders may be fined up to RM1,000.”
Luxury Cars Face 4 Fines for Illegal Modifications
Saifulra said the police also issued 4 summonses for various offenses related to illegal modifications and other violations involving the luxury cars, and have seized the vehicles for further action according to the law.
He stressed that the police will not tolerate any unauthorized marshalling, illegal interception or obstruction of public vehicles within the Iskandar Puteri district, or any behavior that endangers the safety of themselves and other road users.
