The Putrajaya gas pipeline explosion has affected approximately 200 nearby factories, which are concerned that their production will be impacted when demand resumes after the Hari Raya holiday.

The President of the SMEs Association, Tan Kee Hiong, pointed out that the affected factories have been notified that due to the interruption of the gas pipeline leading to their factories, it will take some time to reconnect.

“After the explosion, the gas company issued notices to the factories to temporarily shut down gas facilities, and gas supply will be affected.”

He stated that the notice did not provide a specific timeline.

“Many factories are unhappy because their operations depend on natural gas. Some food manufacturers have indicated that their raw materials have already been affected. They are concerned that after Hari Raya, there will be insufficient gas supply to meet demand.”

Tan Kee Hiong stated that most of the nearby factories are small to medium-sized enterprises.

The gas pipeline explosion that occurred on Tuesday (April 1st) affected 1,254 people (308 families) and damaged over 200 houses.

Meanwhile, Malaysian Gas stated that the company will continue to provide the latest information to the affected factories.

“Malaysian Gas understands the challenges faced by its customers and remains committed to working with other relevant stakeholders such as gas suppliers and authorities, while actively working to minimize the impact.”
