On the 23rd, the International Maritime Organization announced the launch of an evacuation plan for seafarers stranded in the Strait of Hormuz region.

IMO Secretary-General Dominguez said in a statement that the organization will closely cooperate with regional coastal countries such as Iran and Oman, the United States, and the international shipping industry, to evacuate more than 11,000 seafarers currently still stranded in the Strait of Hormuz region.

He stated that months-long conflict has caused suffering for a large number of seafarers and has impacted global trade.

He welcomed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran, considering it an important step toward restoring maritime security in the region and ending attacks on civilian vessels.

Dominguez said that the International Maritime Organization has obtained the security guarantees needed to implement the evacuation plan and has fully verified the safety navigation conditions in the relevant sea areas to ensure the smooth progress of the plan.

He emphasized that the International Maritime Organization will continue to be committed to safeguarding the safety of seafarers and maintaining the smooth flow of global trade.
